Program Notes

Oatlands Sketches for organ solo was commissioned y Emma Lou Diemer. She gave the premiere performance at National City Christian Church in
Washington, DC, on November 2, 1986, and subsequently recorded the work. Oatlands Sketches was inspired by the gardens of the Oatlands Plantation
near Leesburg, Virginia. Various textures and techniques are explored in an effort to capture the flavor of the gardens at various times over the changing
seasons. Much credit for the registrations selected goes to Ms. Diemer and Robert Lehman.
